Is God Telling You to Give Up on Your Relationship?
New city, new apartment, new job, new church, new dating. Trust me, I was more surprised than anyone. It was my newfound relationship with Jesus that woke me up to the fact that my priorities leading up to that point had been out of whack. As my relationship with the Lord progressed, He slowly started telling me that it was only HIS love that could complete me, and my husband needed to be someone who would point me back to that love.
What originally put him on the map was his book “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” which encouraged young people not to date, but rather go through.
The same story happens again and again. Young people, despite their better judgment and how they were raised, date someone they know they shouldn’t really be dating. Over time, simply because of the amount of time they spend together, they fall in love or into sin. They know in their heart it’s not someone they should marry but they marry them anyway.
And then trouble comes Unfortunately over the years, this is a horror story we’ve heard again and again. When young people head down this road, most times they don’t want us to counsel them and marry them. They don’t want us to know what’s really going on, they don’t want us to know what kind of choice they’re making, despite their better judgment and what God’s Word says. Many times sin is a part of this equation–they feel like they have to get married because they have entered into sexual sin with someone they know they shouldn’t even be dating in the first place.
People don’t just fall into sin. One compromise and wrong choice always leads to another.

The longer I try to grow and develop my faith, the more people I see around me who are abandoning their faith.

When we think of relationship breakups, we typically associate them with being negative things. After all, no one wants to end up in an unhappy marriage or divorce. As your protector, God is always looking down on your relationships from the start. Are you listening to what God has to say about your relationship? Here are some ways God might be telling you that you need to give up on your relationship.
Dating, overall, is a process of figuring out if the person you are with would be a suitable spouse. God should be the foundation of your relationship, and you should be excited to get to pray, go to church, and do devotions with your partner. What your boyfriend or girlfriend should want more than a relationship with you is a deep, meaningful relationship with Jesus. While you should want to put effort into your relationship, your life should never revolve completely around the person.
Spending time with the person you love should bring you closer to the Lord, not take you further away. This one can be hard to spot, because we are often blinded by love. Even worse, is this person showing you signs of toxicity?
